Tracer is the call sign of Lena Oxton, a character who appears in Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch franchise. The 2014 Overwatch Cinematic Trailer short was her first appearance overall. An April 2016 update for the crossover multiplayer online battle arena game Heroes of the Storm added her to its playable roster, marking her first inclusion in a video game. Shortly thereafter, she appeared in the first Overwatch game, a first-person hero shooter. She again appeared in its 2023 sequel, Overwatch 2.

Development of Overwatch
Overwatch is a team-based first-person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in May 2016. The game, while having several different play modes, generally features two teams of six players each, selecting pre-made heroes from the game's roster, to either attack or defend various objective points on the game's maps. The game supports casual game modes as well as ranked competitive play. Since release, Overwatch has been both critically and financially successful, with a player base of 35 million players as of October 2017.

Mercy is the call sign of Angela Ziegler, a character who first appeared in the 2016 video game Overwatch, a Blizzard Entertainment–developed first-person hero shooter, and the resulting franchise. Voiced by Lucie Pohl, she is a Swiss doctor who provided key medical support for the original Overwatch group. In-game, she is a support-class hero who can heal, buff, and resurrect teammates.

D.Va is the call sign of Hana Song, a character developed by Blizzard Entertainment for their Overwatch franchise. She was introduced at the launch of the franchise's first entry, a 2016 first-person hero shooter video game, and returned in its 2022 sequel, Overwatch 2. She features in the franchise's related animated and literary media. Outside of Overwatch, D.Va also appears as a playable character in the crossover multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game Heroes of the Storm and as a gameplay announcer in StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. In English-language media, D.Va is voiced by Charlet Chung.

Winston is a character developed by Blizzard Entertainment for their Overwatch franchise. He was introduced at launch in their 2016 first-person hero shooter video game of the same name and again appeared in its 2022 sequel, Overwatch 2. Winston is one of the more prominent characters used by Blizzard in Overwatch media outside of the video game; the character made an appearance in the game's cinematic trailer and is the focus of an animated short released by Blizzard. Crispin Freeman voices Winston in English-language media.

Mei (Overwatch)
Dr. Mei-Ling Zhou, commonly referred to as Mei, is a character who first appeared in the 2016 video game Overwatch, a Blizzard Entertainment–developed first-person hero shooter. Originally conceived as a Canadian bounty hunter named "Frostbite" who encased her targets in ice, she was changed due to the developers feeling a light tone was necessary for the character, and redesigned her as a cute, Chinese scientist. Voiced by Yu "Elise" Zhang, Mei is stationed in Antarctica as part of the efforts of "Overwatch", a global peace-keeping force, to monitor climate change. After being revived from cryopreservation, she helps the reformed group combat a global threat, utilizing a pistol that can either generate ice beams or generate ice constructs, accompanied by her sentient drone Snowball. Since her introduction, she has appeared in various spinoff media related to the franchise, including comics and merchandise, and later in another Blizzard developed title, Heroes of the Storm.

Reinhardt Wilhelm is a character who first appeared in the 2016 video game Overwatch, a Blizzard Entertainment–developed first-person hero shooter, and the resulting franchise. Conceived from a desire to include a fighter in a mech suit, the concept originated from the cancelled game Titan, and went through several iterations through development. Voiced by Darin De Paul, Reinhardt is an aging German soldier who fought during a robot uprising known as the Omnic Crisis. Forced into retirement due to his age, he returns to help after a second uprising occurs from the group Null Sector.

Jeff Kaplan
Jeffrey Kaplan is an American video game designer who founded game developer Kintsugiyama and is the game director for their upcoming game The Legend of California. He was formerly vice president of Blizzard Entertainment, a position he held until he left the company in 2021. During his time with Blizzard, he was most known for designing elements of World of Warcraft and was the lead director of Overwatch (2016).
