Build with Open Archives

Make your own website

Open Archives lets anyone build a small, focused website using cards drawn from Wikipedia. Curate a topic you love — a band, a city, an era, an idea — and publish a microsite with a timeline, mind map, quizzes, and discussion.

  1. Step 01

    Create an account

Free to join. Your account lets you save cards, build decks, and publish microsites.

  2. Step 02

    Collect cards from Wikipedia

Every card on Open Archives is sourced from Wikipedia under Creative Commons. Search the archive and save the ones you want.

  3. Step 03

    Organize into decks

Group cards into decks and sub-decks. Each deck becomes a section of your website (e.g., The Band, Studio Albums, Collaborators).

  4. Step 04

    Publish your microsite

Give your site a name, tagline, and hero image. Open Archives generates a timeline, mind map, and quiz from your cards automatically.

  5. Step 05

    Open discussion (optional)

Allow signed-in visitors to comment. You moderate as the site creator.

Against the dead internet

Bots wrote the feed. Models ate the web. Wikipedia is one of the last human-made commons left — support the real internet.
