Undertale

Undertale (stylized in all uppercase) is a 2015 role-playing video game created by American indie developer Toby Fox. The player controls a child who has fallen into the Underground: a large, secluded region under the surface of the Earth, separated by a magical barrier. The player meets various monsters during the journey back to the surface, some of which may engage in combat. The combat system involves the player navigating through mini–bullet hell attacks by the opponent.

Toby Fox

Robert "Toby" Fox (born October 11, 1991) is an American video game developer and composer. He is best known for developing the role-playing video games Undertale and Deltarune. Fox's early work consisted of developing RPG Maker games and creating ROM hacks, including the EarthBound Halloween Hack. Fox then moved on to composing music, including for Andrew Hussie's 2009 webcomic Homestuck.

Indie game

An indie game or indie video game is a video game created by individuals or smaller development teams, and typically without the financial and technical support of a large game publisher, in contrast to most AAA games. Because of their independence and freedom to develop, indie games often focus on innovation, experimental gameplay, and taking risks not usually afforded in AAA games. Indie games tend to be sold through digital distribution channels rather than at retail due to a lack of publisher support. The term is analogous to independent music or independent film in those respective mediums.

Deltarune

Deltarune is an episodic role-playing video game by American indie developer Toby Fox. Set in a parallel universe to his 2015 game, Undertale, the game follows Kris, a human teenager predetermined to save the world alongside Susie, a monster, and Ralsei, a prince from the Dark World. Throughout the story, the party establishes relationships with a variety of allies and opponents. The game's combat system is turn-based and uses bullet hell mechanics.

Role-playing video game

Role-playing video games (RPGs), also known as computer role-playing games (CRPGs), comprise a broad video game genre generally defined by a detailed story and character advancement. Role-playing games almost always feature combat as a defining feature and traditionally used turn-based combat; however, modern role-playing games commonly feature real-time action combat or even non-violent forms of conflict resolution. Furthermore, many games have incorporated role-playing elements such as character advancement and quests while remaining within other genres.

Bullet hell

Bullet hell , also known as manic shooter, is a subgenre of shoot 'em up video games with large amounts of projectiles the player is required to dodge. Introduced in 1993 with Batsugun and initially limited to vertically scrolling shooters, bullet hell elements were later added to other genres. Pure bullet hell games remain a niche genre due to their high level of difficulty.
