Pageant Material

Pageant Material is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves, released June 23, 2015, through Mercury Nashville. It follows her debut Same Trailer Different Park (2013) and continues her exploration of small-town life, personal identity, and social expectations, particularly those placed on women. Much of the record was recorded live at RCA Studio A. Pageant Material blends traditional country with elements of pop and rock, drawing on influences from artists such as Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Willie Nelson, the latter of whom appears as a guest. Lyrically, it emphasizes everyday experiences, humor, and self-reflection, often addressing themes of independence and resisting external judgment.
