Marmalade Hoverfly

Episyrphus balteatus, sometimes called the marmalade hoverfly, is a relatively small hoverfly (9–12 mm) of the Syrphidae family, widespread throughout the Palaearctic region, which covers Europe, North Asia, and North Africa. It is considered the most abundant native hoverfly in Central Europe. Scientific Name: Episyrphus balteatus Range: Europe, Asia, parts of N. Africa Size: 9–12 mm Status: Common ID Notes: Orange-yellow with distinctive narrow and broad black bands on abdomen — wasp mimic. Hovers expertly. Behavior / Notes: Major aphid predator as larva.
