Iris Lemare

Iris Margaret Elsie Lemare (27 September 1902 – 23 April 1997) was an English conductor and musician. She was the first woman to conduct the BBC Symphony Orchestra and co-founded the Macnaghten-Lemare series of concerts which introduced the public to new works by British composers. She is considered the first British woman to work professionally as a conductor.
