Indian Walking Stick

Carausius morosus is a species of Phasmatodea (phasmid) often kept as pets. Culture stocks originate from a collection from Tamil Nadu, India. Like the majority of the Phasmatodea, C. morosus are nocturnal. Culture stocks are parthenogenetic females that can reproduce without mating. There are no reports of males, although in captivity, gynandromorphs are sometimes reared. Scientific Name: Carausius morosus Range: Native to India; widely kept as pet Size: Females ~10 cm, males ~6 cm Status: Common ID Notes: Long, slender, brown to green body resembling a twig. Females have small red patches at base of forelegs. Behavior / Notes: Reproduces parthenogenetically — most pet populations are entirely female. The most commonly kept pet stick insect.
