Henry VIII
Henry VIII (28 June 1491 – 28 January 1547) was King of England and Lord of Ireland from 22 April 1509, and King of England and Ireland from the commencement of the Crown of Ireland Act 1542, creating the title of King of Ireland for monarchs of England and their successors, until his death in 1547. The second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, Henry had an elder brother, Arthur, Prince of Wales, who preceded him in the line of succession to the throne. Arthur died at the age of 15, and Henry became the heir apparent in 1502. Henry VII died in 1509, transferring the throne to Henry at the age of 17.
