Covert operation

A covert operation, clandestine operation or undercover operation is a military or police operation involving a covert agent or troops acting under an assumed cover to conceal the identity of the party responsible. Covert actions come with both benefits and risks. In terms of benefits, covert action might have operational advantages, such as precise targeting, while also enabling escalation control, and reduced political backlash. In terms of risks, covert action might have logistical constraints, undermine messaging, create exposure risks, and lead to long-term blowback.
