The song was released as a digital download on Lukas Forchhammer's 27th birthday (18 September 2015) by Copenhagen Records. The lyric video was uploaded to YouTube on 17 November 2015, and the music video was uploaded on 15 December 2015. Despite receiving mixed reviews from music critics, "7 Years" topped the Danish Singles Chart.
